Firewalk Studios is finally releasing Concord on August 23, a first-person hero shooter that underwent a development period of approximately eight years. This is according to the lead character designer at the studio.

Set in a sci-fi universe, the game presents players with a diverse selection of alien characters, each possessing unique abilities that contribute to a dynamic and strategic gaming experience.

The journey leading to the launch of Concord has been extensive, with Lead Character Designer NEWSK, also known as @sharkeatsman on X (formerly Twitter), mentioning the collaborative effort and creative trust that influenced the game. With nearly five years of experience at Firewalk Studios, NEWSK has conveyed the importance of this milestone, acknowledging that launch days hold rarity and significance in the careers of game developers.

“Today @FirewalkStudios launched @PlayConcord! The game has been in development for around 8 years and I’ve been there for almost 5 of them. We don’t get a lot of Launch Days in our careers so today is special for a ton of reasons. Oblige me some good vibes today, ” reads the status shared by the developer.

Concord is designed as a player-versus-player (PvP) hero shooter, experienced from a first-person perspective. The game introduces players to a range of alien characters, each equipped with distinct abilities, such as robot legs for enhanced mobility and diamond skin for increased damage absorption. One of the factions within the game is the Freegunners, a group of mercenaries recognized for their combat expertise. Additionally, the game incorporates unique mechanics like persistent equipment—such as healing pads and trip mines—that remain effective between deaths and across different rounds, introducing a strategic dimension to the gameplay.

At launch, Concord offers five playable characters: Vale, Haymar, Star Child, Lennox, and the robot 1-Off, with a total of 16 characters available. Post-launch support for the game will feature free updates introducing new characters, maps, and vignettes. Updated weekly, these vignettes will provide players with ongoing narratives, showcasing the lives and stories of Concord’s characters beyond the battlefield. Each character is poised to receive their narrative arc, contributing depth and continuity to the game’s universe.

Emphasizing the humanity and depth embedded in Concord, NEWSK has conveyed pride in the final product and optimism for the future.

Concord will be available for PS5 and PC on August 23, 2024.
