Remedy Entertainment has shared impressive milestones for the Alan Wake franchise during its recent Capital Markets Day presentation. The survival horror sequel, Alan Wake 2, has sold over 1.8 million units since its release on October 27, 2023, becoming Remedy’s fastest-selling game to date. Additionally, the franchise as a whole has reached a significant milestone, with over 15 million players globally.
Alan Wake Remastered, which revitalized the original 2010 classic, has also been a strong performer, selling 1.7 million units as of November 2024. The remaster introduced the Alan Wake experience to a new generation of players while preparing fans for the sequel.
Alan Wake 2 continues the story of its titular protagonist, who has been trapped in an alternate dimension for 13 years. The narrative unfolds as Alan attempts to escape by weaving a horror story that intertwines with the investigation of FBI Special Agent Saga Anderson. The game debuted on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, receiving critical acclaim for its atmospheric storytelling, cutting-edge visuals, and engaging gameplay.
With a reported development and marketing budget of €70 million, Alan Wake 2 is not only one of Remedy’s most ambitious projects but also one of Finland’s most expensive cultural products. Its strong sales and critical reception have solidified its place as one of the standout games of 2023.
