Speculation around Nintendo’s next-generation console, often called the Switch 2, is heating up. Leaker SamusHunter2 suggests that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond might be a launch title for this new console.
In a playful X (formerly Twitter) post, SamusHunter2 hinted they wouldn’t be “hunting space pirates” until the Switch 2’s launch day, referencing the Metroid franchise. They also teased playing Metroid Prime Pinball, linking the post to the series. Given their accurate track record with Nintendo leaks, fans think Metroid Prime 4: Beyond might launch with the new console.
Metroid Prime 4, announced at E3 2017, has had a bumpy development. Initially handled by Bandai Namco Studios, it was restarted in 2019 by Retro Studios, the original developers. Producer Kensuke Tanabe returned to oversee the project.
After years of silence, Nintendo revealed the official title and trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on June 18, 2024. The trailer showed a lush forest, Samus exploring new areas, scanning Space Pirates, and meeting fan-favorite Sylux. The game is set for a 2025 release, and it might be released on both the current console and the Switch 2.
Launching Metroid Prime 4: Beyond with the Switch 2 would fit Nintendo’s strategy of pairing major titles with new hardware. The Metroid series, known for its exploration and visuals, could showcase the new console’s features, especially with the rumored Nvidia T239 chipset performance boost.
Fans are eagerly waiting for more announcements from Nintendo, with rumors suggesting a January 2024 reveal for the Switch 2.
