Nintendo May Have Teased The Nintendo Switch 2 In New Direct

It appears that Nintendo may just have teased the Switch successor, dubbed Switch 2, in its recent Direct presentation.

Twitter/X user ActualAero pointed out that the recent Nintendo Direct featured different presentation graphics and animations from those we’ve seen in the console maker’s prior presentations from the last few years. They shared a video showing a comparison between the two Direct presentation themes, suggesting that the change may have been made by Nintendo to usher a new era with the launch of the Switch 2.

It was also pointed out at the the Wii U/3DS era Nintendo presentations also had a different set of graphics and animations, lending further credibility to the idea that the company has been changing its presentation theme for each new console generation.

Additionally, it was noted that the Partner Nintendo Direct from 2022 used the same theme and design as the prior presentations from the Switch era. Therefore, this isn’t a Partner Direct-specific change.

Previously, Famiboards member Brazil had claimed that Nintendo will hold a series of Direct presentations, starting with Indie World in March, 2024, a general or mini Direct in April, 2024, and a Direct dedicated to the Switch 2 reveal in June, 2024. Universo Nintendo’s necrolipe corroborated this information, adding that, based on what he has heard, the presentation set for April will be a general Nintendo Direct. Insider NateTheHate mentioned on Twitter/X that, while he hadn’t yet heard of this information, the timeline makes sense.

In related news, it was previously reported that discussions are underway between Nintendo and three development studios over the use of the console maker’s IP. Head of Gamesindustry.biz, Christopher Dring, stated that he knows that Nintendo is actively meeting with independent developers to find new partners. Some of these discussions are for publishing indie games, which the console maker is known to do from time-to-time. However, he added that the company is also seeking studios that could work on some of its IP.
