CD Projekt Red has released patch 1.62 for Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, featuring the technology preview of Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode. Developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, this groundbreaking update pushes the limits of gaming technology, offering a completely new, fully ray-traced rendering mode for high-end PCs.

As this is a pioneering technology, the developers have labeled it a “Technology Preview.” The update may not be perfect from the outset, but CD Projekt Red is committed to refining and enhancing this feature as they share their vision of the future with gamers.
Currently, Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode has supported on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series (4070 Ti and up) graphics cards, as well as on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 at 1080p resolution and 30 fps. Given its demanding hardware requirements, this GPU-intensive feature is set to “off” by default.
For PCs with other ray-tracing-capable graphics cards featuring at least 8GB VRAM, patch 1.62 introduces an option to render path-traced screenshots in Photo Mode. This feature allows for the rendering of a single frame, as opposed to multiple frames per second during gameplay.
Patch 1.62 also includes other notable changes:
- A Ray Tracing: Overdrive preset incorporating Path Tracing technology can be enabled in the game settings under Graphics.
- An option to render path-traced screenshots in Photo Mode for ray-tracing-capable graphics cards with at least 8GB VRAM has been added.
- NVIDIA DLAA, an AI-based anti-aliasing mode that enhances image quality, is now available for NVIDIA RTX graphics cards.
- Support for Intel Xe Super Sampling 1.1, a machine learning-driven upscaling technology that boosts performance and image quality, has been added.
- The Benchmark feature has been improved to display more information, such as PC specs, GPU driver version, and selected settings, on the results screen.
This mode is exclusive to the PC version and requires the RTX 40 series with DLSS 3 to run with a functional frame rate on a PC.
