Sony Raises Regional Price of Horizon Zero Dawn On Steam Just Before The Launch of Sequel

JoelBy JoelFebruary 12, 2022No Comments2 Mins Read

Sony has raised the regional price of Horizon Zero Dawn on Steam ahead of the launch of the upcoming sequel. This applies to the region where it was cheap.

Horizon Zero Dawn offered regional pricing on Steam which means that it was cheaper in certain regions while expensive in others. While for those who lived in the EU and US, the game carried a price tag of $49.99, it was cheaper in other regions e.g the Middle East or Asia.

Based on the new pricing that was updated on Steam, the change has applied to pretty much everywhere. The game was as cheap as $5.99 in Turkey at one point (likely after a sale too in addition to regional price) but that has been increased to $24.99 in Turkey. The same applies to other territories around the world.

This new price is actually in line with the launch of God of War on PC. This was the first major Sony game to launch on Steam without cheaper regional pricing compared to Horizon Zero Dawn. Sony has now bumped the price of Horizon Zero Dawn as much as 2x to 3x to match its price to God of War on PC.

While Sony hasn’t officially commented on this matter, this is already leading to some uproar across social media. In communities like Reddit and even on Steam forums, people are condemning this price move demanding a boycott of their games.

Steam usually has region pricing for games which can be implemented based on the selection of the publisher of these games. Some publishers opt-out of regional pricing, but most tend to use them to increase the sales of their games.
