Microsoft and Xbox are interested in the release of the next entry in the Fallout series, likely Fallout 5, happening sooner rather than later.
Speaking during the latest episode of The Xbox Two podcast, co-host Jez Corden claimed that Xbox would like to see a potential Fallout 5 release happen sooner rather than having to wait for Bethesda Softworks to finish work on The Elder Scrolls VI. He said that he expects the next Fallout game to be released within the current decade.
Corden mentioned that, instead of Bethesda Softworks, another studio will likely take charge of the game’s development. Based on his guess and also the most logical choice for Xbox, that studio would be none other than Obsidian Entertainment. He said that the higher ups at Xbox know that they can’t let the release of the next entry in the Fallout take an unreasonably long amount of time. Given the success of the Fallout TV series, we’re inclined to agree.
Recently, Bethesda Game Studios’ Studio Design Director Emil Pagliarulo was questioned about the potential long wait until the release of the next Fallout game, and the part of the development process that takes up a majority of the time for the development team. The Studio Design Director responded by stating that it’s a complicated question.
Pagliarulo said that this not specific to any of Bethesda Game Studios’ titles, and that development times can vary for a variety of reasons. On Starfield, he mentioned that the development team spent a lot of time updating and developing its tech. The studio also paused for “a bit” to assist with the development of Fallout 76. The Studio Design Director further mentioned that, at the end of the day, it always comes down to that most important resource of all – people. He added that, as with any development team, Bethesda Game Studios have talented developers who need time to make quality games.
