Helldivers 2 is an online tactical third-person shooter that is developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, and it is scheduled for release for the PS5 and PC on February 8, 2024. Serving as the sequel to the 2015’s Helldivers, the game is set in a satirical futuristic world dominated by the “managed democracy” of Super Earth.
The game received an M rating from the ESRB for “blood and gore” and “intense violence”. On 14 September 2023, gameplay was showcased during a PlayStation State of Play event, revealing the official release date of 8 February 2024. Pre-orders opened on 22 September 2023. Unlike its predecessor, Helldivers 2 opts for a third-person shooter format. Players can utilize Strategems, such as cluster bombs, sentry guns, shield generators, or supply pods carrying special weaponry, akin to the first game. Friendly fire remains a constant factor. The armor system in the game draws inspiration from real-life firearms against armored targets. Multiplayer supports up to four players and features cross-play functionality between PC and PlayStation 5 users for enhanced gaming experience. Arrowhead Game Studios introduces a multiplayer innovation where human observers at the studio can influence gameplay in real-time.
