Soul Hackers 2 is a role-playing game released in 2022 by Atlus. It’s available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s the fifth entry in the Devil Summoner series and a sequel to Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (1997). The game follows Ringo and Figue, agents of the AI Aion, recruiting Devil Summoners to prevent an apocalypse. Gameplay involves exploring futuristic city dungeons and turn-based combat.
The development team for Soul Hackers 2 included staff from Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE such as Eiji Ishida and Mitsuru Hirata as co-producers and co-directors, with Makoto Miyauchi as the scenario writer. Shirow Miwa designed the characters, and Monaca’s Keiichi Okabe composed the soundtrack.
Players control Ringo and three human allies with varied abilities. The story in Soul Hackers 2 unfolds through 3D in-engine cutscenes and dialogue sections mixing 2D character portraits with in-game models. Progression relies on story-based quests, moving between safe zones offering services like shops, and dungeons featuring combat with Demons. Side quests, called Requests, yield in-game rewards. Additionally, party members have Soul Matrix dungeons, which, when cleared, provide additional skills based on their Soul Bond strength, increased through interactions outside of combat and specific dialogue choices.
