The president of Bloober Team has stated that the recent trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake does not represent the “spirit” of the game.
Speaking during an interview, Piotr Babieno, president of Bloober Team studio, acknowledged criticism directed at the Silent Hill 2 Remake trailer shown during PlayStation’s State of Play. He believes the trailer does not capture the essence of the game. Criticism mainly focused on its unappealing visuals and perceived stiffness, as evident from YouTube statistics and comments, which garnered a mixed reception.
Babieno jokingly remarked that he could have written some of the negative comments himself. However, he clarified that Bloober Team isn’t responsible for the marketing, with their partner Konami handling it entirely. He emphasized that the trailer doesn’t reflect the true spirit of neither the original game nor the remake.
Bloober Team aims to capture the vision of the original game, and it believes that showcasing actual gameplay will change perceptions. Despite doubts about the project’s future, Babieno mentioned receiving numerous messages from satisfied fans. He also reassured concerned players about the quality of visuals, putting emphasis on the use of Unreal Engine 5’s features.
A release date for the Silent Hill 2 remake has yet to be announced. Though, during a recent interview with Famitsu, producer Motoi Okamoto revealed that the game is currently in its final stage of development. He added that there is little else he could share at the time.
In his current role at Konami, he aims to revive the entire Silent Hill series. According to Okaomoto, Silent Hill 2 is the same as everyone imagines, and it is easy to play even in modern times, except that now it can be enjoyed with beautiful visuals that live up to nostalgic memories of the original. He urged fans to try out Silent Hill: The Short Message, and wait for further updates from the development team. The latter is available to download on PS5.
