SEGA and Rovio have announced a crossover event that brings together two popular mobile games, Sonic the Hedgehog and Angry Birds. The event runs from today until March 21st, 2024, and features exclusive content across five different mobile games: Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Dream Blast, Angry Birds Friends, Sonic Forces, and Sonic Dash. Available on both the App Store and Google Play, this collaboration offers players a unique blend of these iconic franchises.
In the crossover event, a mischievous plan gone wrong leads to the creation of a portal between the Sonic and Angry Birds universes. Characters from both franchises, including Sonic and Red, must team up to stop their adversaries. This alliance introduces new playable characters, collectibles, and limited-time events across the participating games, alongside exclusive rewards.
This event marks the first crossover since Rovio became part of the SEGA family and represents a significant moment for both franchises. With millions of players globally, the Angry Birds and Sonic the Hedgehog series have solidified their presence in the mobile gaming sphere. This collaboration aims to bridge these fanbases, offering both new and returning players a singular experience that celebrates the legacy of both IPs.
Mike Evans, Senior Vice President of Mobile and Games as a Service Publishing at Sega of America, expressed enthusiasm for the crossover, emphasizing the goal to craft a memorable experience for fans by making iconic characters playable in a shared universe. Hanna Valkeapää-Nokkala, VP of Transmedia at Rovio, highlights the privilege of being part of a company that cherishes iconic gaming IPs and the anticipation for future opportunities following the merger with SEGA.
The event exemplifies the versatility and appeal of Sonic and Angry Birds, engaging fans beyond traditional gaming platforms and offering a unique and valuable experience for players and fans alike. Participants in the Sonic x Angry Birds event can look forward to a range of in-game activities and challenges across the five titles involved.
From collecting gold rings and power-ups in Sonic Forces to unlocking Red and Chuck as playable characters in Sonic Dash, the event promises a mix of competition and collaboration. Angry Birds 2 hosts a “Sonic Friends” Hat Event, while Angry Birds Dream Blast challenges players in Sonic’s Flash Race event. Angry Birds Friends rounds out the offerings with a Sonic Tournament, featuring new Sonic-themed levels and enemies.
