Resident Evil 9 Is Rumored To Have The Biggest Budget & Longest Dev Time In Series History

The next entry in Capcom’s Resident Evil survival horror series, Resident Evil 9, is set to have the biggest budget and the longest development time in series history, based on the latest rumor.

According to well-known insider Dusk Golem (aka AestheticGamer), who has previously shared details regarding upcoming Capcom projects, Resident Evil 9 will have the biggest budget and the longest development time in series history.

Resident evil 9 budget

Golem mentioned that Capcom considers Resident Evil 9 to be a chance to “move onto new story arcs and focuses” and “take the series in new directions”. Additionally, he stated that the game will be both a closing and the beginning of a new chapter for the series.

Earlier, Golem had mentioned on Discord that the development of Resident Evil 9 was going really well, as was also the case with the Resident Evil 4 remake. He said that Resident Evil 9 diverges from the direct sequel format seen between Resident Evil 7 and 8. However, he emphasized that the plots of Resident Evil 8 and 9 were planned together to converge towards the closure of the ongoing storyline.

The latest non-remake entry in the series, Resident Evil Village, is a survival horror game developed by Capcom. It is a direct sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil 7. Players take on the role of Ethan Winters, who embarks on a journey to locate his abducted daughter within a village overrun by mutant creatures. The game maintains survival horror elements from its predecessors, with players exploring environments to scavenge for items and manage resources, while also introducing more action-oriented gameplay featuring an increased enemy count and a greater emphasis on combat.

The game was first revealed at the PlayStation 5 showcase event in June 2020 and subsequently launched on May 7, 2021, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Later releases included a macOS version and a cloud-based version for Nintendo Switch in October 2022, followed by a PlayStation VR2 edition on February 22, 2023, and an iOS version on October 30, 2023.
