PlayStation Showcase Scheduled for Late May, Featuring Announcements from Konami, Including MGS 3 Remake

Several reliable sources have indicated that a PlayStation Showcase is scheduled for late May, with exciting announcements from Konami, including possible details about the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake and Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Insiders Andy Robinson from Video Games Chronicle and Jeff Grubb have both confirmed the upcoming event, with Grubb revealing the date to be in the week of May 25th. Andy said, “I also heard a Sony Showcase is happening in the usual late May/early June window, with Konami stuff included. I’m not expecting Nintendo to do anything.”

Silent Hill 2 was originally released in 2001. The Remake is set to be released for PlayStation 5 and Windows, marking the first major installment in the Silent Hill series since 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour. The game follows protagonist James Sunderland, played by Luke Roberts, who returns to the titular town upon receiving a letter from his deceased wife.

Silent Hill 2 Remake was officially announced in October 2022 after months of speculation and leaks. It is part of Konami’s ongoing effort to revitalize the franchise, which had been stagnant since the release of Silent Hill: Book of Memories in 2012 and the subsequent cancellation of Silent Hills from former internal studio Kojima Productions. The remake is being led by Bloober Team creative director Mateusz Lenart and produced by Motoi Okamoto from Konami. Original creature designer Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka are also returning for the project.

Although the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake has not been officially announced, rumors have been circulating since as early as August last year. According to insider Dusk Golem, Konami is also working on remasters of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3 for Steam and other consoles. The remasters are expected to be available individually or as a bundle, with a bonus of the MSX versions of Metal Gear 1 and 2 for those who purchase the collection.
