Sega and Atlus’s Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor are rumored to be headed to the Nintendo Switch successor, dubbed the Switch 2.
Twitter user MbKKssTBhz5, who has previously shared information regarding upcoming Atlus game projects, has revealed that both Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor are set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2. Their tweet came in response to Atlus’ statement during an interview, in which the publisher stated that from the very beginning of the development process for Persona 3 Reload, a version for Nintendo Switch was explicitly decided against.
According to Atlus, the demand from Nintendo fans has been noted, however, and it’s now a matter of discussing it with the development team. The insider’s response suggests that a Nintendo Switch port for Persona 3 Reload was never on the cards because the plan is to release it for the Nintendo Switch 2 instead.
Persona 3 Reload is set to launch on February 2, 2024, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. This remake of Persona 3 (2006), the fourth main installment in the Persona series and part of the Megami Tensei franchise, retains the original plot. The protagonist, a high school student, returns to his hometown a decade after his parents’ fatal car crash. He discovers the ability to summon a Persona, a manifestation of his inner spirit, and joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (S.E.E.S.) with other Persona users. Their mission is to defeat Shadows and unravel the mystery of the Dark Hour.
Persona 3 fans had long requested a remake, acknowledged by Atlus, leading to the development of Reload in 2019. It was officially announced in June 2023, following reports in April 2023. The remake stays true to the original story but incorporates graphical and functional updates to align with the series’ later entries. Shigenori Soejima supervised updated character designs by Azusa Shimada, and Atsushi Kitajoh composed new music, featuring tracks sung by Azumi Takahashi and Lotus Juice.
