Following recent updates, online matchmaking for the entire original Gears of War trilogy has been restored, a move that will thrill fans of the renowned series.
Effective today, players can return to the war-torn planet of Sera in Gears of War 1, 2, and 3, allowing them to participate in online multiplayer matches. This represents a significant landmark in the series’ ongoing support.
The match-finding feature for the inaugural Gears of War game is now back in service, facilitating players in searching and joining multiplayer matches seamlessly. This update complements the recent fixes made to the matchmaking system in Gears of War 3, ensuring a streamlined online experience across the entire original trilogy.
The Gears of War series, which debuted with its eponymous first game, presented players with the dystopian planet Sera and the gallant soldiers of Delta Squad. The game introduced Marcus Fenix, a seasoned soldier tasked with humanity’s salvation from the terrifying Locust Horde. Celebrated for its cover-based shooting mechanics, cooperative gameplay, and graphic realism, it set a new benchmark for third-person shooters.
The 2008 sequel, “Gears of War 2,” capitalized on the first game’s success. It delved further into Sera’s lore, exploring the Locust’s origins and the harrowing struggle of humanity for survival. The sequel introduced fresh gameplay elements, including using incapacitated enemies as shields, and broadened multiplayer options. A gripping narrative, underscored by themes of loss and sacrifice, left players on a precipice of anticipation for the trilogy’s conclusion.
Concluding the original trilogy in 2011, “Gears of War 3” offered players a gratifying end to Delta Squad’s narrative while setting a new standard in gameplay. The addition of four-player cooperative play and enhanced multiplayer modes ensured the third installment was the series’ most ambitious. The storyline centered on themes of hope and redemption, delivering a poignant conclusion to the saga of Marcus Fenix and his comrades.
The full trilogy is currently playable via backward compatibility on both the Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles.
