Max Payne 1&2 Remake Development Costs Surge As It Enters Full Production By Summer 2024

The development costs of Remedy Entertainment’s combined remake of the first two entries in the Max Payne series, titled Max Payne 1&2 remake, have increased, as the studio prepares to enter full production by summer of 2024.

Remedy Entertainment has released a business review of the company for the period between January, 2024 and March, 2024, in which it has stated that while its revenue during the first quarter of 2024 was higher compared to the same period a year ago, developmental expenses have increased over the comparison period, mainly due to higher cost incurred due to the development of the Max Payne 1&2 remake.

Furthermore, Remedy Entertainment revealed that development of the Max Payne 1&2 remake proceeded in the production readiness stage during the company’s first financial quarter of 2024. The game is expected to move into full production during the second quarter.

As for the other projects that are in development at Remedy Entertainment, Codename Condor, a part of the Control franchise, moved to full production during the quarter, meaning it has reached the final development stage prior to launch. Based on wide internal playtests, the company believes that its core game loop is engaging, and that it brings a
unique Remedy angle to the genre.

Meanwhile, the Control 2 team has focused on finalizing the proof-of-concept stage, in which the game
world, game mechanics and visual targets are proven. Remedy Entertainment expects the project to
advance to the production readiness stage during the second quarter of 2024.

Lastly, Codename Kestrel has continued in the conceptual stage. The development team is currently working to refine the game concept, suggesting that its release is likely several years away.

In its report, the company noted that, after the Control rights acquisition, it can freely choose the right model with which to
grow its two franchises and expand the Remedy Connected Universe. Remedy Entertainment believes that, with the expansion of high-quality franchises, each new game benefits from the success of its predecessors and the existing fan base.
