Spike Chunsoft’s Nintendo Switch exclusive adventure game, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE, may be headed to PlayStation consoles.
The PlayStation Blog has shared a round-up of season’s greetings and well wishes from partners in the game industry, among which a season’s greeting from Spike Chunsoft. The artwork featured on the greeting card is from the Nintendo Switch exclusive Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE, hinting that the game may arrive on PlayStation consoles in the near future.
Most of the publisher/developer’s prior titles have been available on PlayStation platforms, and it’s likely that Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE will eventually follow suit. There may have been a timed exclusivity deal in place between Spike Chunsoft and Nintendo that may be on the verge of expiring. That said, only time will tell whether the adventure game will indeed make its way to PlayStation.
For the uninitiated, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE was created by prominent developers from the Danganronpa series, including lead designer Kazutaka Kodaka, character designer Rui Komatsuzaki, and composer Masafumi Takada.
Set in a fantasy-mystery genre across six chapters, the game has players guide Yuma Kokohead, an amnesiac detective-in-training, in solving incidents with the assistance of the god of death, Shinigami. The game alternates between the real-world Kanai Ward, where the story unfolds, and the Mystery Labyrinth, a dungeon created from the mysteries surrounding a case.
In each chapter, players explore Kanai Ward, advancing the main story or engaging in optional side quests called Requests. By interacting with objects, conversing with characters, and completing tasks, players earn Detective Points, enhancing Yuma’s skill level and earning Skill Points. These Skill Points unlock various abilities for use in the Mystery Labyrinth. Discovering Shinigami statues can trigger optional dialogues with side characters. When incidents occur, players search for information and clues, converting them into Solution Keys for use in the Mystery Labyrinth. Quick time events and minigames, some involving Yuma’s fellow detectives, may also be part of the gameplay.
