Lords Of The Fallen Developer Is Working On An “Ambitious” Open World Survival Game

Lords of the Fallen developer CI Games is currently working on an “ambitious” and “original” open world survival game, based on the latest information.

According to a job listing for the position of Combat Designer at CI Games, the Lords of the Fallen developer is working on an “ambitious” and “original” open world survival game with a horror theme. The developer claims to be putting a unique twist on the formula, both in mechanics and the environmental challenges it has set for the player. The listing has since been removed, and is no longer active.

The listing mentions that visual quality is paramount, therefore the studio is building the game in Unreal Engine 5.1. Additionally, it is stated that the game will feature overarching RPG mechanics and game progression via weapon leveling, game stats, character builds etc.

CI Games’ recent title, Lords of the Fallen, is an action role-playing game that serves as a sequel to the 2014 video game with the same title. It was released on October 13, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is played from a third-person perspective. The game draws inspiration from the Soulslike genre, as players use a combination of melee weapons and magic to combat enemies. It’s possible to play the campaign cooperatively, and there’s also a dedicated PvP multiplayer mode.

Players start by creating and customizing their avatar, choosing from nine character classes. The game is set in a vast, interconnected world that is significantly larger than the world in its 2014 predecessor. The setting involves two layered worlds – Axiom, the realm of the living, and Umbral, the realm of the dead, accessible through a magical lantern. Once players are taken out, they are transported to Umbral, from where they need to return to Axiom in order to reclaim their lost experience points, much like in the Souls games.
