Leaked Metro 4 Details Tease New Protagonist and Semi-Open World Locations

Leaked information about Metro 4 has surfaced online, offering fans an unconfirmed but intriguing look into the game’s development and potential features. The leaks come from a source known for revealing credible details in the past, including unreleased trailers and builds of previous Metro games. Here’s what the leaks suggest:

Development Details and Changes

According to the leaks, 4A Games began working on Metro 4 in 2020, initially envisioning the game as a fully open-world experience. However, this direction was reportedly scrapped in 2022, leading to a project reboot in the latter half of the year. The current version of the game is said to feature large open locations, but it will not be fully open-world.

The primary setting for the new game will return to the Moscow Metro and its surroundings, a familiar backdrop for long-time fans of the series.

Key Features and Changes

  • New Protagonist: The leaks claim that Artyom, the iconic protagonist of the series, will not be the main character in Metro 4. This represents a significant departure from previous entries, possibly to explore fresh narrative perspectives.
  • Returning Locations: While the game will include new environments, players can expect to encounter several familiar areas in Moscow.
  • Faction Comebacks: The Hanza faction, a key player in earlier games, is rumored to return, hinting at ties to the series’ established lore.
  • Art Direction: The game’s visual identity is being shaped by Sergei Karmalsky, serving as the art director for Metro 4.

Additional Projects from 4A Games

The leaks also provide updates on another significant project by 4A Games, EOLLA, described as a “Stalker in space.” Development on this AAA IP, originally shelved in 2014, was reportedly resumed in late 2023. EOLLA’s ambitious scope could bring a fresh take on the survival genre, combining 4A Games’ expertise in atmospheric storytelling with science fiction elements.

What This Means for Metro Fans

If these leaks are accurate, Metro 4 is set to deliver a mix of the series’ iconic elements while experimenting with bold new directions. The return to Moscow, combined with semi-open-world exploration and the reintroduction of factions like the Hanza, suggests a strong connection to the series’ roots. However, the decision to move away from Artyom as the protagonist signals a potential shift in storytelling.

As with all leaks, this information remains unconfirmed until officially announced by 4A Games or their publisher. Still, it provides an exciting glimpse into the potential future of the Metro franchise, as well as 4A Games’ broader ambitions with projects like EOLLA. Fans will undoubtedly keep a close eye on further updates and announcements.
