Koei Tecmo Takes Legal Action Against YOUZU for Intellectual Property Violation

KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD., based in Yokohama, Japan, led by President & COO Hisashi Koinuma, has taken legal action against YOUZU (SINGAPORE) PTE. LTD. for allegedly using their intellectual property without permission. The complaint was filed with the Tokyo District Court on April 8, 2024, seeking damages and injunctions against the defendant for using copyrighted material and trademarks unlawfully.

The complaint accuses YOUZU (SINGAPORE) PTE. LTD. of using copyrighted music, images, and trademarks from KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD.’s game series “Nobunaga’s Ambition” and “Taiko Risshiden” for advertising their game app online without proper licensing. Despite prior warnings, the defendant continued these activities, leading to legal action.

Additionally, KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD. claims that the defendant’s unauthorized use of their name in public and misleading descriptions suggesting a connection between their app and KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD. are harmful to users, partners, and the gaming industry’s reputation.
