Sunset Overdrive trademark was recently updated by Insomniac Games and it has got the fans buzzing for a return of the series.
The trademark update might be a simple due process that is quite normal, but that hasn’t let the excitement of fans dampen. In a new interview with GQ Magazine, Marcus Smith, the creative director at Insomniac Games who worked on Sunset Overdrive was asked about a prospect for a sequel.
When the interviewer asked about the future of the Sunset Overdrive franchise, Marcus Smith suggested that as they own the IP, they can always return to it. As of now, they have a lot of exciting things planned for the future.
“I mean, never say never is my approach. Obviously, we’re part of Sony now, but we own the IP and so there’s nothing really stopping us other than we have a lot of really exciting things in our future.”
When asked if Marcus was interested in making another entry in the series, the creative director was enthusiastic to return to this world.
“I would. I think there are a lot of stories that can be told in that universe and I would love to return to it. I had a lot of fun making that game.”
They are leaving the door open for a potential sequel but they don’t really have immediate plans to return to it. This doesn’t mean they can’t port the first game to other platforms. While it was originally exclusive to Xbox One, the game was ported to PC later.
