Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arrowhead Game Studios’ third-person shooter, Helldivers 2, has set an unprecedented sales record in Europe.
According to the head of Gameindustry.biz, Christopher Dring, Helldivers 2 was comfortably the best selling game of last week across Europe, reaching almost 2.5 times the sales of Skull and Bones, the game at second place.
Dring further mentioned that Mario vs Donkey Kong took fourth place, even without the inclusion of sales of the digital version. As for Helldivers 2, he said that the online third-person shooter sold slightly better on PC than on Ps5. He added that the remarkable thing about Arrowhead Game Studios’ successful title is that its sales across Europe increased by nearly 40% from its first week to its second. He pointed out that this is a rare feat in the game industry.
Previously, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt stated that Helldivers 2 will “never” feature a PvP mode because the development team wants to reduce toxic elements from the community. He made this statement in response to a tweet that suggested the development team should add a PvP mode to the game to attract Call of Duty players and to keep the more hardcore players engaged. In his response, Pilestedt stated that the team at Arrowhead Game Studios wants an environment that is supportive, fun and where all players are “fighting on the same side”.
Helldivers 2 is an online tactical third-person shooter that is developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, and it is scheduled for release for the PS5 and PC on February 8, 2024. Serving as the sequel to the 2015’s Helldivers, the game is set in a satirical futuristic world dominated by the “managed democracy” of Super Earth. The game received an M rating from the ESRB for “blood and gore” and “intense violence”. On 14 September 2023, gameplay was showcased during a PlayStation State of Play event, revealing the official release date of 8 February 2024. Unlike its predecessor, Helldivers 2 opts for a third-person shooter format.
