Support for Xbox Game Studios and 343 Industries’ compilation of first-person shooters in the Halo series, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, has reportedly come to an end a decade after launch.
According to Twitter user TechnicalHalo, many developers at 343 Industries who worked on Halo: The Master Chief Collection have received a “Thank You!” note from the studio management, suggesting that the July, 2023 update was the last one and that the game’s post-launch support has ended.
The “Thank You!” note is addressed to Halo: The Master Chief Collection developers by Michael Fahrny, Head of Production at 343 Industries, and Greg Haas, Senior Competitive Insights Team Member at 343 Industries. It reads, “Your dedication, teamwork, and commitment to excellence have not gone unnoticed. Together, we have achieved a significant milestone, and it’s all thanks to your hard work and determination.” The accompanied plaque states, “Finished the fight, Halo: The Chief Collection, 11/2014 – 07/2023“, suggesting that post-launch support for Halo: The Master Chief Collection ended after the July, 2023 update.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection was released in November 2014 for the Xbox One and later made available on Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The collection features Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4. Each game in the collection received graphical enhancements. Halo 2, in particular, received a high-definition overhaul in honor of its tenth anniversary. The collection also included access to the live-action series Halo: Nightfall and the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta that took place in 2014–15.
All four campaign modes support solo play or cooperative play through split screen or Xbox Live on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The Microsoft Windows release lacks split screen capability but supports online cooperative play with Steam friends and Xbox friends. Similar to Combat Evolved Anniversary, players in Halo 2 can seamlessly switch between the original and upgraded graphics.
