Some of the cosmetic items available in Xbox Game Studios and 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite have received a price hike.
Halo community director at 343 Industries, Brian Jarrard, took to Twitter to share that the shop price on many cosmetic items in Halo Infinite have been increased in conjunction with multi-core functionality being added to customization content. His statement came in response to concern raised by a member of the community over the pricing changes.
Jarrard explained that, with Season 4, revised shop offers were introduced to reflect an updated pricing model that accounted for new coatings being multi-core enabled. With Season 5, many previously released coatings and all helmets in the game were updated to work on all cores, much like the new ones, and those cosmetic items received a price hike to reflect these changes, and to have parity with Season 4 offers.
At the same time, the development team made pricing adjustments to offers that included shoulders, as they are planned to also be multi-core enabled in a future update. According to Jarrard, this was a tradeoff to try and front load some of that work now versus just having a constant churn of shop pricing changes along the way. While the price of many of the game‘s Season 1 to Season 4 offers have been increased, he mentioned that, as more multi-core coatings come to bear, there are going to be more past offers that weren’t included with the initial Season 5 pricing adjustments that will see updates in the future.
Jarrard clarified that, in the case where some offers are currently seen as being on sale despite being the same price, or even more than before, this is due to the underlying base price of the offer being increased. It was also clarified that those who already owns these helmets, coatings, and shoulders will automatically receive multi-core functionality on eligible items as the changes go live in game.
