The source code for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is reportedly circulating online. Notable gaming community figures on Twitter have noted that the leaked archive appears to contain authentic files, but it is currently password-protected.
Gaming researcher Vadim M. highlighted the situation, cautioning fans against falling for scams. He tweeted, “It looks like the GTA SA source code is circulating online, but the archive is password-protected.” Vadim warned users not to buy the password if someone offers to sell it, advising patience and caution as the situation unfolds.
The news gained traction when popular GTA influencer videotech commented. Videotech tweeted, “It appears the GTA: San Andreas source code has surfaced online this morning but the archive is password-protected.” The tweet also revealed that the ZIP file allegedly contains a “FileList.txt,” which lends credibility to the leak.
This is the second significant leak in two weeks, raising concerns about the security of legacy game files from Rockstar Games. Videotech noted that the file structure from the ZIP archive suggests that the leak is genuine but admitted uncertainty about its origins. “Not sure if it’s from the same person who had the design documents, but we’ll see,” the influencer added.
Rockstar Games has not yet released an official statement regarding the recent leak. The company has experienced several breaches lately, with the most notable being the leak of Grand Theft Auto VI. A hacker reportedly accessed their servers and obtained videos that appeared to showcase an early version of GTA VI, even before Rockstar Games made any official announcement about the game.
GTA VI is currently one of the most anticipated games of the year. It is confirmed to launch in 2025, but since Rockstar Games has not provided any updates, including additional footage or trailers following the initial reveal, the release date remains uncertain. The game is set to target the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.
