Fans of the God of War series may have something extraordinary to look forward to in 2025. According to multiple rumors and a listing spotted on the website Instant Gaming, Sony Interactive Entertainment is allegedly working on a God of War Greek Saga Remastered. The listing points to a 2025 release, possibly coinciding with the series’ 20th anniversary.
This rumor stems from a report by Chinese insider Lunatic Ignus, who claimed on Discord that Nixxes Software, known for its PC ports and remastering efforts, is spearheading the project. The remastered collection is said to include all the iconic games from the original Greek mythology storyline:
- God of War
- God of War II
- God of War III
- God of War: Chains of Olympus
- God of War: Ghost of Sparta
- God of War: Ascension
According to Ignus, the compilation will be officially announced in March 2025. This coincides with a possible celebration of two decades of the God of War franchise, making it a fitting way to honor the series’ legacy.
Nixxes Software, which recently handled Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, has hinted that it is working on additional first-party remastering projects. This aligns with the rumor, as the studio has a proven track record of enhancing Sony’s most beloved titles. However, there has been no official confirmation from Sony or Santa Monica Studio, and these claims should be taken with caution.
In addition to the potential remaster, speculation about the next major God of War entry continues. Santa Monica Studio has reportedly begun early development on a new game, having posted job listings requiring expertise with combat systems and mechanics seen in God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok.
The God of War series has maintained a strong legacy, with its most recent installment, God of War Ragnarok, achieving record-breaking sales and critical acclaim. Initially launched for PS4 and PS5 in November 2022, it expanded to PC in October 2024.
