Final Fantasy XVI Takes Full Advantage of PS5 SSD, Has 60 FPS Performance Mode

During the recent PAX East 2023 event, Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy XVI, shared some exciting updates about the upcoming game. One of the most notable features of the game is its near-instant load times, thanks to the hardware of the PS5.

Yoshida demonstrated this by loading a save file during gameplay, which only took around 3 seconds to return to the game. The game also boasts two performance modes: a Graphics mode that targets 30fps and runs at 4K resolution, and a Frame Rate mode that targets 60fps with slightly compromised image quality at a resolution of around 1440p.

Additionally, Yoshida discussed some gameplay details that fans have been curious about. For example, he mentioned that the boss battles in Final Fantasy XVI are split into multiple phases, with QTEs (quick-time events) added to allow these phase shifts to feel more dynamic. There are three types of QTEs in the game: Attack, Evasion, and Clash.

Yoshida also addressed questions about the size of the game’s areas. Final Fantasy XVI features both smaller areas and larger fields, with unique map designs for each stage. The game also includes a hub area called the Hideaway, where players can return between adventures. This area has an item shop, a blacksmith, and an Arete Stone that lets players replay stages or practice their combat skills.

Finally, Yoshida noted that all footage of the game shown so far is running in real time. He also hinted that more information about the game’s RPG elements will be revealed in April. Fans can expect to learn even more exciting details about Final Fantasy XVI as its release date approaches.
