Final Fantasy XVI Surpasses 3 Million Units Sold Worldwide

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XVI, the latest installment in the renowned Final Fantasy series, has surpassed 3 million units in total worldwide sales. The game, a PlayStation 5 exclusive title, was released simultaneously worldwide on June 22, 2023.

Final Fantasy XVI is a completely new title in the numbered “Final Fantasy” series. It is the first full-fledged action RPG in the series, depicting the harsh fate of the main character, Clive. The game was produced by Naoki Yoshida as producer and Hiroshi Takai as director.

The game is set in the fictional world of Valisthea, a world divided between six nations who hold power through access to magical Crystals and Dominants, humans who act as hosts for each nation’s Eikon. Tensions between the nations escalate as a malady dubbed the Blight begins consuming the land. Clive Rosfield, guardian to his younger brother Joshua, witnesses his kingdom destroyed and embarks on a quest for revenge in pursuit of the dark Eikon Ifrit.

The game features segmented open environments and an action-based combat system involving melee and magic-based attacks. There are recurring series features including Chocobos, and summoned monsters called Eikons, which are both fought as bosses and used through channelling their power in combat.

Square Enix plans to further increase package and download sales, as well as continue product development to allow more people around the world to enjoy the work. The company’s commitment to the game’s success is evident in its ongoing efforts to enhance the gaming experience for players worldwide.
