First Look at Female Protagonist in Upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red Revealed

JoelBy JoelOctober 22, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red, the working title for an upcoming game in the Assassin’s Creed series, has recently received some intriguing new details about its female protagonist. The information comes from Pierre Boudreau, an Assassin’s Creed writer, who updated his LinkedIn page with a new banner. The game, which is set in Feudal Japan, is part of the Assassin’s Creed: Infinity platform and is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec.

The heroine is tentatively named Naoé or Naoi, although this could change before the game’s release. The name “ナオエ” appears under the Assassins logo on the right side of the banner, suggesting that it is her name in Japanese. Her story is said to be similar to that of Bayek from Assassin’s Creed: Origins. A member of the Order will kill her father, setting her on a quest for revenge and leading her to create or join the shinobis.

According to Marc-Alexis Côté, the series’ Vice President Executive Producer, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red will allow players to experience a “very powerful shinobi fantasy” set in Feudal Japan. The game will also return to the newer style of Action RPG gameplay, aligning with recent entries in the series.

The game was first leaked on September 6, 2022, by Bloomberg and later confirmed during Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed showcase at the Ubisoft Forward livestream. It is reported that the game, along with another title called Assassin’s Creed: Hexe, will likely not be released until 2024 at the earliest.

The game has already faced some controversy due to the involvement of Jonathan Dumont, who has been subject to past allegations regarding abuse and sexual misconduct. Many Ubisoft employees reportedly refused to work with him and some even quit. Ubisoft has stated that they take such allegations seriously and that Dumont has been disciplined and cleared to continue working on the project.
