A new spin-off in the Sonic the Hedgehog series that takes inspiration from Mediatonic’s Fall Guys is rumored to be in development.
According to Twitter user MbKKssTBhz5, who is known for their leaks regarding Sega/Atlus titles, the publisher is now involved in the development of a new Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off title that takes inspiration from Fall Guys
As per the source, this new Sonic spin-off title will be released in 2024 for mobile platforms, and will be distributed across both iOS and Android.. They mentioned that the gameplay elements in this unannounced Sonic the Hedgehog title will be similar to those from Fall Guys. As of writing, there is no mention of a console or PC release, though if it is successful, the odds of it being ported would likely be high.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard of an upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog title for mobile platforms. Recently, an alleged PowerPoint presentation from Sega has outlined the Sonic franchise’s plans for 2024. This included a Knuckles TV Spinoff and Season 3 of Sonic Prime scheduled for Q1, 2024, a new mobile game in Spring, 2024, Sonic SuperStars DLC, a potential animated prologue for an undisclosed game, the aforementioned undisclosed game in Holiday, 2024, and the Sonic 3 movie in December, 2024. If the information in the presentation slide is correct, the Fall Guys inspired Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off will see the light of day in a couple of months in Spring, 2024.
The most recent entry in the Sonic series, Sonic Superstars, is a platformer released on October 17, 2023. It was co-developed by Arzest and Sonic Team and published by Sega. The game adopts a side-scrolling style of gameplay reminiscent of the classic titles from the Sega Genesis era in the 1990s. Players can choose from four characters, Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, and Amy Rose, and dash across levels with the objective of defeating Doctor Eggman and Fang the Hunter.
