Bandai Namco recently announced that Elden Ring, the critically acclaimed action RPG co-developed with FromSoftware, has sold more than 28 million copies globally. This achievement firmly establishes Elden Ring as one of the most successful games in modern gaming history, surpassing the lifetime sales of FromSoftware’s renowned Dark Souls franchise, which previously reported over 27 million copies sold.
The announcement was made during the reveal of a new spin-off game, Elden Ring: Nightreign. This upcoming title, slated for a worldwide release in 2025, will expand the universe of Elden Ring.
The announcement of Nightreign comes as Elden Ring is still wowing players with its detailed lore, open-world setup, and satisfying gameplay. Both companies thanked the fans for their ongoing support and promised more updates as the release of Nightreign gets closer.
From Software just dropped a new expansion called Shadow of the Erdtree. It’s packed with loads of fresh content. Basically, it’s like a half sequel with a whole new area and a bunch of new boss fights. The expansion even got a nod for game of the year, but that stirred up some fuss about whether expansions should even be up for game of the year awards.
With Elden Ring now outselling the Dark Souls series, it really shows how FromSoftware’s games are reaching new heights. The buzz around Nightreign is adding even more hype for fans who can’t wait to explore more of the world crafted by Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team.
