Berlin-based developer Twisted Ramble Games is set to release its 2D puzzle platformer, Duru – About Mole Rats and Depression, on Steam for PC and Mac on Friday, May 5, 2023. The game explores mental health and friendship, with a Nintendo Switch version planned for release following the PC and Mac launch.
Players follow the story of Tuli, a mole rat gatherer responsible for providing her South African plains colony with the food and resources needed for survival. A mysterious black creature, Bel, follows Tuli, making her tasks feel impossible. Bel is a manifestation of Tuli’s developing depression, often working against her by moving objects, consuming items, and manipulating her in unpredictable ways.
Players guide Tuli on her journey through the colony’s tunnels, learning to overcome Bel’s desires and use them to her advantage. The game features a wordless format that speaks to players of all languages, focusing on running, jumping, and painting objects and items in beautifully illustrated and animated locations.
Kerstin Schütt, Narrative Designer at Twisted Ramble Games, said, “Duru – About Mole Rats and Depression has a human heart at its core. We hope Tuli’s struggles and her path to overcoming them in our debut title will resonate with players across the world and remind them hope springs eternal when it comes to Steam on May 5.”
Duru – About Mole Rats and Depression will be available on Steam for Windows PC and Mac on May 5, 2023, for $19.99/€19.99, with a Nintendo Switch version planned for a later date.
