Diablo IV to Receive Story Content Updates Every Quarter

JoelBy JoelApril 12, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

As Game Informer recently reported, Blizzard Entertainment is set to roll out substantial quarterly updates for Diablo IV. The game’s associate director, Joe Piepiora, explained in a cover story that while he avoids the term “expansions,” these updates will bring new storylines and be closely connected to fresh mechanics and features. Players can also expect seasonal battle passes in both free and premium options. Although the game’s initial season won’t coincide with its release, it will follow soon after.

Blizzard has also shared more about the endgame content for Diablo IV through a developer video. Players can look forward to challenging Nightmare dungeons and open-world Helltide areas as the core endgame experience. Nightmare dungeons will present tougher, reimagined versions of the 100+ dungeons available at launch, with various affixes ensuring ample replayability.

The Game Informer cover story unveiled two new affixes for Nightmare dungeons. One of these involves an unbreakable lightning pillar that continuously chases players, while the other introduces a shade that stalks players and, upon contact, impairs their vision while summoning extra foes.

Blizzard further elaborated on Helltides, explaining that numerous areas in the game world can be affected by Helltides for a limited time. These areas will be populated by even more formidable adversaries, including remixed boss versions from different parts of the game.

Diablo IV marks the fourth main installment in the acclaimed Diablo series. Officially announced at BlizzCon 2019, the game is set to launch on June 6, 2023. Public betas were made available in March 2023. Fans can look forward to the return of series staples like replayable, procedurally generated dungeons, and loot-focused character building, along with exciting new features such as an open world and player versus player (PVP) interactions. Players can choose from five playable classes – Barbarian, Sorceress, Druid, Rogue, and Necromancer – and guide their characters through quests and combat in the world of Sanctuary, following the resurrection of the demon Lilith.
