New details on the rumored movie based on Sony Interactive Entertainment and FromSoftware’s action role-playing game, Bloodborne, have been revealed.
Back in November, 2023, a tier-2 approved source on the MarvelStudiosSpoilers sub-reddit known as DanielRPK had claimed that Sony Pictures is working on a movie based on Bloodborne. They had provided a few details regarding the production crew, such as the names of the producer and writer.
Recently, the same individual has shared some additional updates regarding the Bloodborne movie on their patreon. According to him, Sony Pictures is interested in having Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs Kong) direct the film. It is also stated that the company is looking to cast Bill Skarsgard (John Wick: Chapter 4).
It seems that DanielRPK has been consistently accurate with his scoops in the movie industry, particularly regarding casting announcements. For instance, he correctly predicted Catherine O’Hara’s involvement in The Last of Us Season 2 and Pedro Pascal’s casting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Fantastic Four before official trades made the announcements. Given his track record and reputation within the movie leak community, it’s likely that his information about upcoming projects, may hold merit.
Previously, Sony Interactive Entertainment had asked the creator of Bloodborne Kart to “scrub the branding off” their game, as the company owns the Bloodborne IP.
Blooborne is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware for the PlayStation 4. The storyline follows a Hunter navigating the Gothic, Victorian-era–inspired city of Yharnam, where residents, known as Yharnamites, are turning into monstrous beasts due to a blood-borne disease. The Hunter seeks the origin of the plague, uncovering the city’s secrets and engaging in battles against beasts and cosmic entities.
The FromSoftware-developed game shares similarities with the studio’s Dark Souls series. Players choose a starting class, referred to as an “Origin,” which provides a basic backstory and sets initial attributes. Although origins offer background narratives for the Hunter, they do not influence gameplay beyond affecting starting statistics. Players also align their Hunter with one of several religious societies, known as “Covenants,” each with distinct perspectives on the world of Yharnam.
