Deltarune Chapter 3 Development Is Almost Complete, Release Planned Alongside Chapter 4

Development on Chapter 3 of Toby Fox’s latest role-playing game, Deltarune, is nearing completion, and its release is planned alongside Chapter 4.

In its Halloween 2023 newsletter, developer Toby Fox revealed that the development of Chapter 3 of Deltarune is almost complete, and that its release will happen along with Chapter 4 once the latter is ready. The studio’s original plan was to release Chapter 3, 4, and 5 together. However, Chapter 5 is still pretty far off from being ready. As such, instead of making fans wait that long, the developer has decided to launch Chapter 3 and 4 earlier.

The developer mentioned that Chapter 3 is pretty much content complete, and that there will be no more changes to dialogue or gameplay from here onward.  However, it was also stated that there are many more steps involved than just finishing the gameplay and graphics. That said, several people on the development team are already transitioning back into working on Chapter 4.

Based on the new strategy, Toby Fox will no longer wait for Chapter 5. Instead, it will focus on making Deltarune available for purchase as soon as work on Chapter 4 is complete. According to the developer, this should make everything a bit more reasonable.

The developer mentioned that Chapter 4 already has a very substantial amount of cutscenes and enemy work done. In addition, a new producer has been hired, who’s job will be to speed up the overall game development for future chapters.

There will be a pause on more detailed development updates for now. Instead, the developer will let fans know if work on the episodes is getting close to completion, or if some unexpected hurdles come in the way.

In Deltarune, players take on the role of a teenager named Kris, who is joined by Susie, a monster, and Ralsei, a prince from the Dark World, in their mission to prevent the end of the world by sealing the Dark Fountains. Throughout their journey, they encounter various inhabitants of the Dark World, some of whom oppose their mission. The combat system revolves around dodging bullet hell attacks, and players have the choice to resolve enemy encounters peacefully or through violence, similar to how things were in the developer’s other role-playing game, Undertale.
