A notable Chinese Weibo user, known for accurately predicting the entire June Nintendo Direct lineup earlier this year, has ignited speculation about Nintendo’s upcoming console, possibly named the Switch 2.
On December 21, the leaker began a mysterious countdown using Fibonacci sequence numbers, expected to end on January 8. Considering their earlier claim that the Switch 2 could be announced in January, this has led to excitement that Nintendo might reveal the console on that date.
The leaker has also shared potential release timelines for the Switch 2. In a post on November 23, they claimed the console would be released in March 2024, with an estimated first-month shipment of 650,000 units worldwide. This suggests a quicker release strategy compared to the original Nintendo Switch, which shipped around 2.74 million units during its launch period.
Adding to the credibility, a December 6 repost pointed to reports from Foxconn’s November financial data, allegedly confirming the assembly and shipment of the Switch 2. According to the leaker, Nintendo has already started stockpiling these units, differing from its usual pre-release production approach.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the successor to the Nintendo Switch. There is no official confirmation on its name, but Nintendo has assured that they will announce a successor to the Nintendo Switch by the end of the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025. If the leaker is right, an announcement is expected in January.
The leaker also mentioned that the console will launch in March, mirroring the announcement and release schedule of the original Nintendo Switch. Only time will tell if these leaks are accurate. Due to the delayed announcement, many third-party accessory manufacturers for the Nintendo Switch 2 have already shared leaked designs of the console.
