Capcom is adding a new DRM called The Enigma Protector to its back catalog of PC games, based on the latest information.
People over social media and the Steam community have been reporting that Capcom is adding a new The Enigma Protector DRM to its back catalog of PC games. This includes games like Resident Evil Revelations, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection, and other titles.
The publisher had previously held a presentation in which it outlined its plans to introduce a new DRM. As per Capcom, PC games have always been subject to cheating and piracy. Malicious cheating and piracy can reduce the value of the product and lead to a loss of profit. However, the DRM added to its back catalog of titles reportedly prevents modding of any sort, reduces performance by up to 10-15 fps, and causes intermittent stutters.
Capcom has pulled the Resident Evil Revelations update as it resulted in game crashes. However, the publisher has stated that it will push the update once again after it has resolved the issue.
“Due to an issue observed with the latest update released, we have reverted the corresponding update. We apologize for the inconvenience caused, and once the issue is resolved, we will re-release the update. Thank you very much for your patience and cooperation.”
Capcom is known for removing the Denuvo from some of its recent PC titles, such as Resident Evil Village. However, the company appears to want to continue to use DRM in the long run in some shape or form. The new DRM is detrimental to game performance and also prevents the use of mods. Capcom fans who play on PC have been voicing their concern over social media as well as the Steam community. Despite this, the publisher remains firm on its stance.
