Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has disabled family sharing on Steam. This was released as part of a new update from Activision.
Family Sharing allows multiple users with the same Steam account to gain access to the game in their library. It is enabled for the majority of games available on Steam although the developers can also opt out of it if they choose to.
It turns out that while Modern Warfare 2 comes with family sharing by default, it was removed as part of an update as early as today.
It seems strange to see that the game has been removed from Family Sharing since it launched with the option intact. It could be a mistake from Activision, however, this seems unlikely. Modern Warfare 2 was also the first major game from Activision to launch on Steam with a native release, as compared to the Battle.Net exclusivity in the past.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is the nineteenth chapter in the Call of Duty series and a sequel to the 2019 reboot. It was released on October 28, 2022, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 offers significant design improvements and gameplay adjustments to the series. Advanced AI systems in campaign and co-op modes, water physics, swimming mechanics, and a redesigned vehicle system are all included. New mobility strategies include dive to prone, mantle, and ledge hang, as well as the elimination of slide canceling. The leveling and Gunsmith systems have been updated to allow players to fine-tune individual attachments to fit their playstyles.
