One of the new gameplay features in Horizon Forbidden West is the water breathing ability that has to be unlocked with the diving mask.
Diving Mask doesn’t let you breathe underwater only, but also unlocking the diving mask opens up new items to collect and locations to visit. Once, gone underwater, Aloy will get a chance to explore new areas of the underwater world.
How To Unlock Water Breathing Ability In Horizon Forbidden West
The only thing Diving Mask will do is to give some extra time of up to one hour or even more to stay under deep water without running out of oxygen. Other than that it ain’t going to change anything else.
So before you opt to get the Diving Mask, get done with all the story missions as soon as possible. During your quests, you will come across a Poseidon mission in the Sea of Sands Quest, there, you will meet three characters who are struggling to find a few components but could not because they can’t hold their breath for long. So one of them reaches Aloy and asks her to find these components for them. They will give Aloy the Diving Mask. These crafting objects include:
- 1 Compressed Air Capsule
- 1 Machine Knee Cap
- 1 Synthetic Membrane
Compressed Air Capsule turns out to be an easy catch. Dive into the elevator shaft mark and you will find it on the diving bell.
Now to find the pieces of the diving mask you have to deal with the group of Bellowbacks and Leapslashers. Follow the purple footprints that you would find near the ruins.
As you keep on moving you will find some machines and it’s completely up to you if you want to engage with them or not. Keep looking for the herd, and once you track them down, the Bellowbacks will have your Synthetic Membrane. Fighting them back will give you a tough time but after you have screwed them, gather your pieces from their bodies and take them to the NOC. He’ll help you build it. There you will make yourself a Diving Mask.
