Apex Legends: How To Disable Cross-Play On Nintendo Switch

GIStaffBy GIStaffMarch 11, 2021No Comments2 Mins Read

Apex Legends is available now for the Nintendo Switch. The game comes with support for cross-play with other platforms. Here’s how you can disable it.

Cross-play allows two different platforms to play together and it is one of the features of Apex Legends on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This is also a part of the Nintendo Switch version but sadly it is not a good idea to use this, or keep it enabled. We will explain why this is the case in this article, and how you can disable it in the game.

Why Cross-Play Is Bad On Nintendo Switch?

Cross-play might be a good idea on paper but this is not the case for the Nintendo Switch version. Due to the nature of this port, the users who are playing it on the Nintendo Switch will remain at a disadvantage compared to the other platforms. The resolution has already been dropped from 1080p and above to just 720p but this is not the only limitation of the Nintendo Switch port.

In addition to the resolution of Apex Legends, the frame rate has been halved which means the Nintendo Switch owners will play the game at essentially half the frame rate of the PS4 and Xbox One versions. This leads to a competitive advantage on the other platforms due to better reaction time at 60 FPS versus 30 FPS.

The last thing to mention is that the visuals are also downgraded so if you are aiming to play through the battle royale game with other platform users then you will be at a disadvantage due to the lower resolution and reduced effects.

How To Disable Cross-Play In Apex Legends On Nintendo Switch

The process to disable Apex Legends cross-play is relatively simple on the Nintendo Switch. All you have to do is head into the options menu.

  • Go to settings in Apex Legends
  • Head to “Game”
  • Select the option to turn cross-play off

This should take care of it and the next time you start matchmaking, the game would only drop you in matches with other Nintendo Switch players.
