Days Gone is one of the notable titles that arrived toward the end of the PlayStation 4’s lifecycle but never saw a sequel, despite performing well both commercially and critically. The game was later ported to PC, where it found additional success, and it received a PS5 patch in 2020 that enabled 60 FPS support. However, a native PS5 version was never released.
That situation may be changing, according to a new report. Jordan Middler, an editor at VGC, has suggested that Sony is currently working on a remaster of Days Gone. While there has been no official confirmation from Sony, speculation is rising due to rumors of an upcoming State of Play event, which could take place next week. One of the games expected to be announced is a remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn, which was recently rated by the ESRB. Alongside Horizon, another remaster is rumored to be in the works, and many believe it could be Days Gone.
Originally developed by Bend Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Days Gone was first released for the PlayStation 4 in April 2019, with a Windows port following in May 2021. The game is set in post-apocalyptic Oregon, taking place two years after a global pandemic has transformed much of humanity into zombie-like creatures called Freakers. The story follows Deacon St. John, a former outlaw turned drifter, as he embarks on a journey to find his wife, Sarah, who was believed to be dead.
Despite mixed reviews at launch, the game had sold 7.32 million copies by February 2022. In 2021, reports emerged that Bend Studio had unsuccessfully pitched a sequel to Sony, leaving fans uncertain about the future of the franchise.
If the remaster rumors are true, it may signify renewed interest in the Days Gone IP, giving fans hope for further developments in the future.
