Sly Cooper Surpasses All Classic Games with Record Debut on PS Plus Premium

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus debuted as part of the PS2 emulation support on the PS5 and was released on PS Plus Premium. It has been marked as the biggest success for the subscription service. This classic PS2 game resonated strongly with players, drawing a substantial audience on PS5 and PS4.

The release of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus on PS Plus Premium has proven to be a monumental success, as evidenced by the immediate player engagement. This title is part of the initial wave of PS2 games introduced to the service, alongside Tomb Raider Legend and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. According to data from over 3.1 million active PSN accounts, Sly Cooper has emerged as the top performer among these classic titles.

In its debut week, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus recorded a 2.5 percent higher player count than the previous record-holder, The Legend of Dragoon. This marginal yet noteworthy increase solidifies Sly Cooper’s position as the most successful PS Plus Premium game since the service’s inception in 2022.

While Sly Cooper’s debut is impressive within the context of PS Plus Premium, it is essential to consider its relative performance across the broader PS Plus ecosystem. For instance, the game ranks as the eighth most popular PS Plus game of 2024, trailing behind titles like Dave the Diver, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Need for Speed Unbound.

The current rankings for PS Plus Premium and Extra games in 2024 reflect a diverse range of player interests. Sly Cooper leads the Premium category, followed by The Legend of Dragoon, Tomb Raider Legend, Twisted Metal, and Resistance Retribution. Meanwhile, the top spots in the Extra category are occupied by games like Dave the Diver, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Need for Speed Unbound.

Sly Cooper is one of the first PS2 games by Sucker Punch. The whole trilogy was released on the PS2 followed by a 4th game for the PS Vita and PS3, but it was from a different developer. Sucker Punch then went on to work on games like Infamous and Ghost of Tsushima.
