Rockstar Games appears to be working on a next-generation version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, based on a recently leaked trailer. The trailer, which has circulated online, seemingly features footage from Red Dead Redemption 2 and concludes with a release date set for March 2025 on these next-gen consoles.
Red Dead Redemption 2, initially released in 2018, is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Despite the widespread acclaim and commercial success of the game, Rockstar Games has not yet released an enhanced port for the current-generation consoles, nor has it provided a 60 FPS patch for the game, which is only achievable on the PC version.
This potential next-gen release could finally offer console players the enhanced experience they have been anticipating. The absence of an official 60 FPS update for PS5 and Xbox Series S|X has been a notable gap in Rockstar’s support for the game, especially considering its status as one of the most critically acclaimed titles of the eighth console generation.
Red Dead Redemption 2 represents the third installment in the Red Dead series, functioning as a prequel to the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption. The game is set in a fictionalized rendition of the United States in 1899 and revolves around the experiences of Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, as he navigates the decline of the Wild West.
Red Dead Redemption 2 achieved remarkable success upon its launch, breaking numerous sales records and establishing itself as one of the most influential titles of the eighth console generation. The game amassed an impressive $725 million in its opening weekend alone and exceeded the lifetime sales of its predecessor, Red Dead Redemption, within a mere two weeks.
Furthermore, alongside its compelling single-player campaign, RDR2 offers Red Dead Online, an online multiplayer mode accommodating up to 32 players engaging in a variety of cooperative and competitive activities.
With over 65 million copies shipped, RDR2 has emerged as one of the best-selling video games of all time.
