Sony has officially announced Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for PC and PS5 during a recent State of Play event. For those who already own the PS4 version, there is a $10 upgrade option to access the remastered edition.
However, it seems that Sony may have increased the price of the original Horizon Zero Dawn following the announcement of the remastered version. Owners of the Complete Edition can upgrade to the remaster for $10, but the base price of the game, which had dropped to $20, has now risen to $39.99—bringing it closer to the cost of the PC version.
A comparison of the price history shows that the game has been available for around $20 since 2020 and was even offered for free via PlayStation Plus. However, with the remastered version’s announcement, the price has jumped to $40—nearly double its previous listing. Adding the $10 upgrade fee, the total cost of the Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered version reaches $50.
Sony did not explain this price increase during the announcement of the remaster, leading to disappointment among fans who were surprised by the sudden change.
The Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered upgrade applies to both the PC and PS4 versions and will enhance the game’s visuals to match more closely with its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, which was released on PS4, PS5, and PC.
Fortunately, those interested in the PC version can still find discounted keys for the game on Steam, with the lowest price currently listed at $10, making it an ideal opportunity to purchase the game and later upgrade to the remastered version.
If you own Horizon Zero Dawn through PlayStation Plus, you might also be eligible for the paid upgrade, as Sony has allowed similar upgrades in the past.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is set to release on October 31, 2024, for PC and PS5.
