The successor to the Nintendo Switch, commonly called the Nintendo Switch 2, is expected to launch sometime in 2025. Although Nintendo has not officially confirmed any details about the new console, speculation and insider information hint at significant advancements in design and functionality for this next-generation hardware.
Despite the absence of a formal announcement, rumors about the console’s features and design have been circulating through various insider reports. Some fans have even monitored Nintendo’s shipments for potential clues about the components of the new hardware. Recently, a sketch allegedly showing the design of the Nintendo Switch 2 dock was shared online, further fueling speculation.
The sketch was first posted by a user and later verified by a trusted insider known for providing accurate information about the console in the past. According to this insider, the sketch resembles the dock design they were informed about, though they stressed that it remains unconfirmed and may not reflect the final version.
The insider stated: “All I can say is that the dock sketch is similar in design and shape to one I received several weeks ago; however, I’ve been working to verify it. I don’t know whether this design has been shared on Chinese forums, but the general design matches what I was sent in September. Again, I have not verified the design with any source at this time.”
One notable feature in the sketch is a redesigned kickstand, which appears sturdier and more stable than the smaller, harder-to-open kickstand on the original Nintendo Switch. This improvement could address one of the common complaints about the original console, enhancing the overall user experience.
Regarding the hardware capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, several rumors suggest the console will support backward compatibility, allowing players to enjoy their existing Nintendo Switch games on the new system. It is also expected to feature a custom Nvidia system on chip (SoC), similar to its predecessor. However, detailed specifications have yet to be officially confirmed or leaked. Last month, reports emerged about images allegedly showing the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, though these claims remain unverified.
