According to a recent podcast attended by Windows Central editor Jez Corden, Halo Infinite has been profitable for some time. Corden highlighted the game’s financial success, stating that “Halo Infinite’s profitable now,” and emphasized that it has “been profitable for a while.” He attributed the game’s consistent microtransactions as a significant factor in its profitability.
However, Corden later clarified his remarks through a tweet, explaining that while the game is profitable, it does not necessarily translate to a substantial financial gain for the developers. He pointed out that a significant portion of the profits is being reinvested into the development of the next title in the series, indicating that 343 Industries is already directing its resources toward future projects.
Halo Infinite, released in December 2021, is the sixth mainline installment in the Halo series and was developed by 343 Industries, with Xbox Game Studios as the publisher. The game’s campaign follows the iconic supersoldier Master Chief in his battle against the Banished on the Forerunner ringworld Zeta Halo. The multiplayer component of Halo Infinite is free-to-play, a first for the series.
Originally planned as a launch title for the Xbox Series X/S, Halo Infinite encountered a delay after its initial gameplay reveal in 2020, which was met with negative feedback from fans and critics. Following the delay, the multiplayer component was released in open beta on November 15, 2021, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Halo franchise, with the full campaign launching on December 8, 2021.
