In a recent interview with 4Gamer, Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy XIV and XVI, expressed his excitement about the potential re-release of Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics. As a fan of Yasumi Matsuno, Yoshida wants future generations to experience these games on various platforms.
Yoshida is passionate about preserving the essence of masterpieces like Vagrant Story and Tactics. He emphasizes making these games accessible to new players without compromising their original charm. While he’s not enthusiastic about remakes, he recognizes the importance of preserving these titles.
These games have a near-cult following due to their complex narratives and unique gameplay mechanics. Final Fantasy Tactics pioneered the tactical RPG genre, while Vagrant Story is known for its darker, narrative-driven action RPG experience. However, since they were released on older consoles, it’s become difficult for new players to enjoy them.
During the interview, Hironobu Sakaguchi, the original creator of Final Fantasy, suggested crowdfunding as a viable option for reviving Mistwalker’s classic titles like Terra Battle. Yoshida endorsed this idea, playfully proposing a sequel to Parasite Eve with a protagonist named after Sakaguchi’s grandchild.
There have been numerous rumors about a potential remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics. This title was included in the well-known Nvidia leak, which revealed several major unannounced games coming to PC. While some of these titles have since been officially confirmed, Square Enix has not yet made any announcements regarding a possible remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics. However, they did release a remaster of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, another game directed by Yasumi Matsuno.
