There are rumors that a Definitive Edition of Elden Ring could be in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, with a potential release as early as late 2025.
This information comes from a well-known Nintendo insider, Nash Weedle, who mentioned that a “Definitive Edition” might be in the works. The project is reportedly being handled by Virtuous, a company that has experience with ports and remasters for other developers. Although Bandai Namco and From Software may not be directly involved, the success of the port could still be promising if the Nintendo Switch 2 has the necessary hardware to support it.
Weedle’s post reads, “A port of ELDEN RING for SWITCH 2 is in development, which will feature a ‘Definitive Edition.’ It appears that Virtuos could be responsible for this port, with an expected release by the end of 2025.”
Another well-known Nintendo insider, Necro Felipe, has heard about this rumor but could not verify a release schedule for the game.
Released in 2022, Elden Ring is an action RPG developed by FromSoftware, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, with worldbuilding contributions by celebrated fantasy author George R. R. Martin. Set in the vast open world of the Lands Between, players take on the role of a character tasked with mending the Elden Ring and seeking the title of Elden Lord.
With over 25 million copies sold and numerous Game of the Year awards, Elden Ring ranks among the best-selling games of its era. The game’s success continued with the release of its substantial DLC expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, in June 2024, which added fresh content and has sold over five million copies to date.
Nintendo has not yet announced the successor to the Nintendo Switch. However, it is widely anticipated that there will be an announcement before the end of the year, with a release date expected in early 2025. Until Nintendo officially reveals details about the new hardware, rumors will continue to circulate.
