Guilty Gear Producer Dismisses Report of Cancelled Game, Calls It a Baseless Rumor

GIStaffBy GIStaffAugust 5, 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Guilty Gear Strive producer Ken Miyauchi has publicly dismissed a recent report by Insider Gaming that claimed a new Guilty Gear title was cancelled in recent weeks. Speaking during an interview at Evo 2025, Miyauchi denied any knowledge of such a project, describing the rumor as entirely baseless and expressing disappointment over its circulation.

The conversation took place during Evo 2025 where Miyauchi addressed the claims head-on. When asked about the alleged cancellation, he responded with a mixture of disbelief and humor, stating, “It’s kind of funny, but I didn’t know about it. It was just a rumor. It’s interesting to see that kind of rumor coming out of nowhere.” He attributed the emergence of such speculation to Guilty Gear’s growing popularity, suggesting that the franchise’s increasing global reach may be contributing to false reports gaining traction.

Miyauchi elaborated further, explaining that Arc System Works is not a large company and that any new Guilty Gear development would be visible to the core team. “What I know is that it’s not in my hands. I don’t think I have ever seen that [game], and we are not that big of a company, you know? So, if I do not know about it, then it probably didn’t exist in the first place.” He also remarked on his enthusiasm to be involved with any future Guilty Gear titles, stating, “I’m kind of sad because I’m Guilty Gear Strive’s producer. So you know, if there is any chance that Guilty Gear games are going to be made, I’m very, very happy to be involved.”

In reference to the franchise’s direction moving forward, Miyauchi emphasized that future developments would depend heavily on Daisuke Ishiwatari, the creator of the Guilty Gear series. “I think when we start our new game, that’s gonna be when Daisuke Ishiwatari is ready for it,” he said, underlining the central creative role Ishiwatari plays in the series’ progression.

The original report from Insider Gaming, which cited anonymous sources, claimed that a new Guilty Gear project had been cancelled within the past few weeks but did not provide further details or context regarding its development stage or platform. Given Miyauchi’s categorical denial, the credibility of the report now stands on uncertain ground.

Guilty Gear Strive remains the latest entry in the franchise. Released in 2021, the game has continued to grow in popularity with ports across all major platforms, including a recent Nintendo Switch version in January 2025. As of June 2025, it has surpassed 3.5 million units sold worldwide, marking a significant commercial milestone for Arc System Works and establishing Strive as one of the most successful entries in the franchise’s history.
