Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Reviews Go Live Tomorrow, Game Reportedly 60 Hours Long

With only days remaining before the official launch of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, anticipation is steadily growing. Developed by Sandfall Interactive and published by Kepler Interactive, this debut title arrives on April 24, 2025, and aims to blend turn-based RPG mechanics with real-time combat features. Reviews are scheduled to drop on April 23, giving players a clearer picture of what to expect from this ambitious release.

Set in a visually rich world inspired by Belle Époque France, Expedition 33 places players in the roles of Gustave, Maelle, and other members of a doomed mission—known as Expedition 33—tasked with ending the deadly cycle brought forth by the mysterious Paintress. Once each year, the Paintress paints a number on a monolith, and all who match that age vanish into smoke. This year, that number is 33.

Early impressions from select reviewers and players have pointed out that the game’s main story content spans approximately 40 hours, while completionist playthroughs may exceed 60 hours. The game’s soundtrack has also drawn early praise, with one reviewer stating it is “all hits, no misses,” underscoring what could be one of the title’s strongest artistic aspects.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 promises players an evolved combat system where traditional turn-based gameplay is augmented by real-time mechanics. Players will be able to dodge, parry, and aim attacks with precision in what the developers describe as a more immersive approach to RPG battles. This mechanic invites comparisons to more modern interpretations of classic JRPG formulas, while still offering the strategic depth genre fans expect.

Exploration is a core element, featuring distinct locations such as the Island of Visages and the Forgotten Battlefield. Players will also encounter allies of fortune and hidden quests, with optional companions providing access to previously unreachable areas on the world map.

The game will be available in both a standard edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The latter includes cosmetic bonuses such as themed outfits and hairstyles for each character, as well as exclusive attire for Maelle and Gustave.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X on April 24, 2025.
